Your Lullaby

I've been wanting to try something for a while. I wanted to reach past my comfort zone a bit and try my hand at writing poems, but more specifically, writing lyrics. My husband is very musical and we thought it would be a fun project we could do together—I'd write lyrics, and he'd compose the music to go with them.
And so we did.
Our first song is dedicated to my mom. I wrote it for her birthday. My husband recorded and edited it all on his phone and together we created this special piece that I am so proud of.
No, I'm not a perfect singer, and I don't care. I know there are moments when I'm a bit pitchy but you know what? I don't give a flipping rat's ass. I'm SO proud of what my husband and I did. I'm proud of myself for doing something new, for daring greatly, for stepping into the arena.
So, here it is. Our first song, dedicated to my mom, title Your Lullaby.
Your Lullaby
[Verse 1]
Never missed a single game
Handmade cards with my first name
A single rose in a milk glass vase
A knowing smile across your face
When the noises all around
Overwhelmed, they grew too loud
Held my hand and stroked my hair
All was well ‘cause you were there
[Chorus]
Every childhood memory
Holds pieces of your legacy
Your story woven into mine
The sweetest lullaby
[Verse 2]
A little girl in high heel shoes
Wishing I could be like you
Patient, generous, and kind
The rhythm to your lullaby
[Chorus]
Every childhood memory
Holds pieces of your legacy
Your story woven into mine
The sweetest lullaby
[Refrain]
Your unequivocal, sacrificial love for me
Weaves a tapestry, piece by piece
A beautiful embroidery
The picture of your legacy
A gift you leave for me
[Chorus]
Every childhood memory
Holds pieces of your legacy
Your story woven into mine
The sweetest lullaby
Every single memory
Holds pieces of your legacy
Your story woven into mine
I sing your lullaby
I sing your lullaby
I sing your lullaby
